Day 19 of the 31 Days of Halloween Blog Hop

Welcome to Day 19 of the Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween Blog Hop.  I'm so glad y'all could join me.

OK..Ladies..y'all have done it again.  I have been seeing so many art journal pages on this hop that I felt the need to try one myself.  I found a small 5x5 notebook hidden amidst all the junk in my scrap room and thought..huh..this might work. I took it apart  and made my first page.

I realized after taking it apart that the pages were very thin.  It's just a regular notebook. So, I glued two pages together and added a piece of Black Recollections card stock to the back.   I think I need a different style of journal.  If  you ladies have any suggestions, please leave me a comment and let me know what I should get.

So, to start, I painted the whole page with Mayco's Softees Acrylic paint in Flat Black.  I only put one coat on it.  I then took a sponge brush and smeared some Mayco Softees Acrylic Orange Rust on some of the areas.   I then crumbled up a piece of copy paper and dipped it in Folk Art Pure Gold Metallic paint and daubed it all over the page. While that dried, I colored in this Sugar Skull from Opal Manor with Sakura Glitter pens and then fussy cut it out.  When the page was dry, I adhered the skull and used a White Gelly Pen to write my sentiment.

I'm not sure if this is what I should have done, but I did it .  Thanks for stopping by today.  I truly appreciate it.  Make sure to stop by all the blogs on the roll (posted to the right of this post) and make sure to stop by Terra's blog for the rules, sponsors and winners of the Scavenger Hunt.

  1. Great page. You're gonna have fun with it. Some people glue several pages together to make them thicker and then cover with Gesso when they're thin like that. xxD

  2. I think you've done a wonderful job. Adding gesso helps or making your own journal out of a heavier weight paper. But I have seen them (and attempted them) using whatever I find cheap in the back to school section.
