Outlawz Paper A La Mode Challenge

Good Morning again.  I am a bit late in posting this card.  We had such a busy weekend I didn't get to post it.  On Thursday we took Kierstynne to see fireworks, Friday we cooked out at my MIL's and had fireworks again, Saturday my husband wanted to have a cookout, so we had about 30 people here at our house.  Sunday we had church, dinner at the inlaws and then took Kierstynne to the arena here in our area for the WWE Wrestling show.  She is a girl after her daddy's own heart.  He's a huge wrestling fan and so is she.  This week is Vacation Bible School at Tim's grandmother's church plus Twirling tonight..so it looks like I will be busy all week.  I have to fit some crafting in somewhere..

So, this week over on The Outlawz Paper a la Mode Saturday challenge, we have a Summer Challenge.  I used Dearie Dolls images and a Creative Stamping image to create my card.

To begin, I used an Ivory card base from Recollections.  I printed out the images onto Neenah card stock and using colored pencils, added some color.  I fussy cut each element.  The "sand" is actual sandpaper that I tore and inked with DI Walnut Stain. I learned my lesson the hard way of cutting sandpaper with a trimmer..I wouldn't advise it. :)  The "ocean" is a DP from Recollections All Season pad that I got at Michael's for $4.50.  Before adding the ocean and sand, I used chalks to make the sky.  The little swimmer is adhered with Pop Dots for interest.  I printed out that sentiment from my computer program and trimmed it down, inked it with DI Walnut Stain and added it with pop dots.

Melonheadz Friends Monday Challenge

Welcome back to another Melonheadz Friends Monday challenge.  This two week challenge is to USE EMBOSSING.  You can use Embossing Folders, Embossing Powders or a combination of both.  

I used the cute Pippi Longstocking digi set that can be found here in the store.

For those of you who have no idea who Pippi Longstocking is, she has crazy red pigtails, no parents to tell her what to do, a horse that lives on her porch, a best friend who is a monkey and a flair for the outrageous that always seems to lead to one adventure after another.  The book is written by Astrid Lindren and there was a movie made from the book. My daughter had to read this novel for school this year and she loved it.  

Pippi is a thing finder.  She is always finding little trinkets and things that most people would consider junk, she finds amazing.  So, I added some little things that she may have found along her journey.  That cute little monkey, that's Pippi's best friend, Mr. Nilsson.

I chose dry embossing with embossing folders to design my card.  I used Tim Holtz Rays, Sizzix D'vine Swirls and Swiss Dot.  Mr. Nilsson is Swiss Dotted for texture.  The DP is from DCWV and the card stock is Recollections.

I sure hope that you will stop by Melonheadz this week and enter an embossed project.  The prizes for this challenge?  A bundle from Melonheadz store of your choice...it will be a hard choice because there are some very cute ones there.

Digi Darla Monday Challenge

Good morning friends.  It's Monday again and that means another challenge at Digi Darla.  The challenge this week is to make and Easel Card.

I chose Country Bouquet to make my easel card.

I began this card with a SU Fresh Asparagus card base.  I used DPs from DCWV and Pink and Green card stock from Recollections.  The image and mat are die cut using Spellbinder's Nestabilities.  I also used Darice's EF Argyle for the pink card stock.  The sentiment is Desert Diva and the flowers are Paper Studio.

Beary Merry Christmas

Happy Friday everyone.  I sure hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July.  It was sure hot here today.  I am not ready for the summer heat.  I need to find a place where the temp is about 60-65 all year round.  That would suit me just fine.

It's been quite a while since I have posted with Queen Kat Design.  We have some new images in the Kat Shop and would love to have you come check them out.  The stamp I am using today is a digi by Sandra Caldwell.  I have used a few of her images before and I love them.

This cute little bear is a single image and I copied it to make a hanging Christmas swag.  I colored it with Colored Pencils and OMS.  After trimming down the image, I inked it with DI Vintage Photo.  The swag line was hand drawn with a Sakura Glitter Pen and the hooks were outlined with Sakura. I used Recollections and SU card stock and Recollections Bright and Jolly DP.  The sentiment is an old set from Inkadinkadoo that I had in my stash.  I stamped the "merry...merry" continuously onto a piece of white card stock and trimmed it down to fit the card.  The main sentiment is matted onto Grass Green SU card stock and adhered with pop dots.  I added three little "flowers" from K & Co. to finish off the card.

Guest Designer Spot on Sweet Stamps

Hi, its Emily from Pennsylvania bringing you snow  from Sweet Stamps.   I am using Mr. and Mrs. Snow DUO to  create this card.

It was a tough choice because Sweet Stamps has so many wonderful snow images to select from.

I used the paper piecing technique for this card.  I stamped the image on Neenah White card stock first, then onto four different patterned papers 

from MME.  I cut out each part of the snow people's clothes and adhered them with a ZIG two way glue pen.

I used a masking technique to add the snow to the bottom of the card.  I outlined both snowmen with a very light grey Spectrum Noir Marker.  The image was then cut with Spellbinders Classic Squares and embossed.  I cut a mat for it using the Classic Scalloped Squares from Spellbinders.  The DP is DCWV and the entire thing was added to a Gina K Heavy Base Weight White card base.

I Only Have Eyes for You

Welcome back to my blog.  I sure do appreciate y'all taking the time to come see me.

I have a cute card that uses an image from Little Miss Muffet called Monsters Lou and Tia.

I thought they were pretty cute.  I used my colored pencils on them after printing the image and sentiment off on Neenah White Card Stock.  The card design is from Seems a Little Sketchy.  The card stock is Recollections and SU.  The DP is DCWV and American Crafts.  I punched out a ton of little stars with an EK Success punch from a scrap piece of DCWV star paper.  The sentiment is matted onto SU Old Olive and a cool Glittered Blue DP.  I used pop dots to add height to the word "Eyes".

Useless Facts

Hello my friends.  I am so glad to see y'all.  I do have a card for ya, but first some useless facts.  I have been called a walking encyclopedia by my pastor and his wife.  I love learning..always have.  History is my favorite subject, but running a very close second is useless facts.  I don't know why I find them so interesting.  My MIL gave me a book the other day called, "Joey Green's Magic Brands".  It's kind of a history/factoid book about everyday products that you find in your home and what you can use them for other than the intended use.  I thought I would share a few that I found very interesting.

Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing in the gold and black tube can be used to soften dry skin on your feet, removing makeup, adding glitter to your face or shoulders for a party, smoothing your legs after shaving, shining horse's hooves.  It was invented in 1956 by a chemist to restore the damage done to Hollywood actors/actresses' hair by the stage lights.  No one remembers what Alberto's last name was.  Alberto was the first advertising company to have a 60 second TV commercial.

Alka-Seltzer-- cleans toilet bowls, polishes jewelry, removes burned on grease from a pot or pan, unclog a drain.  Invented in 1930 by the same chemist who invented the aspirin in 1899.  The theme song, "Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz, Oh, What a Relief It Is!" is one of the most recognized commercial melodies in the US.

Aunt Jemima Original Syrup--  Prolong the life of a real Christmas Tree, Conditions hair and prevents split ends and frizzies, revive an ailing houseplant, lures insects and bees away from an outdoor party.  Invented in 1964.  Nancy Green, a famous African American cook played the part of Aunt Jemima for thirty years beginning in 1893 at the Chicago World Fair.  In 1924, the Quaker Oats Company bought out Aunt Jemima Mills.

Barbasol Shaving Cream: Created in 1920 by Frank B. Shields to eliminate the need for the old fashion shaving soap mug and brush.  It can remove spots from rugs or carpet, clean upholstery,  used for finger paint, and keep your bathroom mirror from fogging up.  A typical shave will cut about 20,000 facial hairs.  A typical razor blade today is good for about ten shaves.  According to archaeologists, men shaved their faces as far back as the Stone Age.  Ancient Egyptians shaved their faces and heads so that the enemy had less to grab on to.

Bounce Dryer Sheets: Repels mosquitoes, will eliminate static electricity from the TV, will dissolve soap scum from the shower, will clean baked on food from a pan, will collect cat hair.  Invented in 1972.

Welcome back to my last post of the evening.  Thanks for hanging in there with me.

The last card for tonight uses a set of images that I received in a swap about a year ago.  I have been going through some of my stash and weeding out.  I found these pretty flower images and decided to make a card from them.

I matted the image and sentiment onto a soft green Colorbok card stock.  The card base is the same green.  The sentiment is from Rubber Monger and I stamped it in Bamboo Leaves Memento ink over top of the flower image.  The DP is from American Crafts.  I have no idea why I picked an Asian lettering paper, but it looked really good with the colors of the images. I added a doily from my stash behind the images.  The tan die cut behind the sentiment is from my friend Jan.  That beautiful butterfly is also from Jan.  Adding some light green gems from Queen and Co finished off the card.

Welcome back.  I truly appreciate y'all stopping in.  I have another Scripture card for ya this time.

This is another word art designed by Word Art Wednesday.  I used the weekly sketch from MFT to design the card.   The card base is Recollections.  The DP is DCWV.  I inked the edges of all the elements with DI Vintage Photo.  I added a flower from AC Moore to finish off this CAS card.

Hello friends.  I'm back with another card.  This one uses a Scripture designed by Word Art Wednesday.

I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches to make this card.   I made the sentiment into a tag and slid it into the "holder".  The card base is Recollections Pink.  The DP is DCWV and Recollections All Seasons. I added some pearls from Queen and Co to finish off the card.

Freedom isn't Free!!

Welcome to my second post of the evening...only three more to go..:)

The image for this card is a beaut from The Paper Shelter.  The challenge this week is Buttons or Brads.  I chose brads.

Aint' she just too dang cute?  I wonder who she is waiting for?  Maybe her daddy, her brother, uncle, boyfriend...someone coming home from serving a tour overseas with the military?  Who knows.

She's printed on Neenah white card stock and colored with colored pencils.  The back ground of the image is done with chalks.  The card stock for this card is all from Colorbok.  The DP is DCWV Boyhood stack.  I followed the Feeling Sketchy sketch for this week to make this card.  I used Fiskars Shape Cutter to make the circle and a Fiskars Scalloped border punch for the bottom layer.  After matting the image, I used my new Tonic Retractable pick to make the holes for the Recollections Black brads.  I hand wrote the sentiment and inked it with DI Vintage Photo.  The image is inked with DI Vintage Photo too and then popped up on the card.

Sending My Love

Howdy y'all.  I'm back with quite a few cards so the posts will be numerous.  I could combine them all, but I don't think y'all would want to read that extended post. ;)

The first card for this evenings show uses a technique I have never tried before...making pinwheels.  They were a bit more difficult that I thought for.  I had a hard time making them stay together.

The image is from Digital Stamps 4 Joy and the sentiment is Designed 2 Delight which is now From the Heart.  Both are printed on Neenah white card stock.  I've been on a colored pencil kick this week so this one followed suit.  I cut out the image and used pop dots to adhere it. 

The card base is  a bright pink from Recollections and it's a step card.  Thanks Beccy Muir, for the template. The DPs are Colorbok and DCWV.  The brads are Recollections and the gems are Queen and CO.

Happy 4th of July

Good morning.  I hope y'all had a great night's rest.  With Independence day just a few days away, many of the challenge blogs and my DTs have a 4th of July theme.   237 years ago  group of men got together to establish the Declaration of Independence for this amazing country we live in.  "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."  are probably some of the most famous words ever uttered in our country.  Many of our ancestors came to America because of those words.  They wanted better lives for their families and a chance to make one.  Many people have given up their lives for these words.  We, here in America, not only need to celebrate our freedom on Thursday, but every day.  We need to remember why we celebrate the 4th of July and not just enjoy the fireworks, parades and picnics.  We need to pray for those who don't know what life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is all about.

Here are some quirky facts about the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence:

5 of the signers were captured by the British and tortured as traitors.

12 had their homes ransacked and burned down.

2 lost their sons in the Revolutionary War and another 2 had their sons captured.

9 of the 56 fought and lost their lives in the Revolutionary War.

24 were lawyers, 11 were merchants and all knew that by signing this document, they were placing their lives and the lives of their families in jeopardy.

Carter Braxton, of Virginia, lost everything he had and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was forced to move his family constantly and keep his family in hiding.  He served in Congress with no pay and died a pauper.

Thomas Nelson, Jr. had his home taken over by British General Cornwallis and died penniless.

Francis Lewis had his wife jailed for treason and she died shortly after.

These were not ruffians.  They were soft spoken men of means who believed in the document they risked their lives to sign.  Standing tall and unwavering, these men pledged , "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honour."

Now that you have had your history lesson for this morning..:) I have a card for you.  This morning's card is for the Digi Darla challenge for this week: Stars and Stripes--Red and White (Canada) or Red, White and Blue (USA).

I used two of Digi Darla's images to make this card..Your Cheerleader and July Fourth with three stars.  Both can be found in the shop.

To begin this card, I made a standard card base from Gina K's Heavy base weight White card stock.  I used a combination of Recollections and card stock and DCWV All Year Stack for the background.  I added two die cuts that my friend, Jan, sent to me.  The images are printed on Neenah card stock and colored with BIC Markers and Sakura Glitter Pens.  I cut out the cheerleader and popped her up after adding the sentiment.  Adding a few Queen and Co gems finished off this celebration card.

Gone Fishin'

Hello friends.  Well, y'all can relax now.  Monday is over..:)  I have been busy, busy, busy in my craft room getting cards made for this week.  I have a sweet image from Anji's Antics for ya today.

Isn't this a sweet little guy?  Fishing away with his best friend by his side.  

To begin, I printed out the image and sentiment onto Neenah card stock and used Colored Pencils and Chalk to add color.  After trimming down the image, I matted it onto Kraft card stock from Recollections.  I followed the Papertake Weekly sketch for this week to put the card together.  The DPs are all from DCWV. The sentiment is matted onto Aqua Recollections card stock and popped up with pop dots.  The card base is the same Kraft card stock as the image mat.
